Book 1 - Setting Things Up

Chapter 1 - Prologue

When play begins:
	say "It is 1853.[paragraph break]You are John Hero, the deputy of Spitoon, Texas. The sheriff has taken a posse to look for the Lollipop Strangler who has been rumored to be in the area.[paragraph break]You're in charge today, Check your inventory and do the best you can.[paragraph break][paragraph break]"
	

Chapter 2 - The Player's Possessions

The holster is a wearable container worn by the player. The description is "Well-worn from years of use, the leather holster is like a part of you."

The gun is in the holster. The description is "This is your Colt five-shot revolver." Understand "colt" and "revolver" as the gun.

The badge is worn by the player. The description is "This tin star identifies you as the deputy."

The white hat is worn by the player. The description is "A trim white hat with a 'montana peak.'"

The brass key is carried by the player.

Instead of examining yourself:
	say "You are John Hero the deputy of Spitoon, Texas."
	

Chapter 3 - New Stuff

Section 1 - New Verbs

Understand "ring [something]" as ringing. Ringing is an action applying to one thing.

Carry out ringing:
	say "Trying to ring [the noun] will accomplish little."
	
Understand "shoot [something]" as shooting. Shooting is an action applying to one thing.

Carry out shooting:
	say "Trying to shoot [the noun] will accomplish little."
	
Understand "knock on [something]" as knocking on. Knocking on is an action applying to one thing.

Carry out knocking on:
	say "Knocking on [the noun] will accomplish little."
	
	
Section 2 - New Kinds

A lollipop is a kind of thing that is edible. The plural of lollipop is lollipops. Understand "lollipops" as lollipop.


Book 2 - The World

Chapter 1 - The Main Street(s)

Main Street is a room. "The gusting wind on the empty street fills the air with dust and debris. The street continues north and south. The Saloon is to the east"

North Main Street is north of Main Street. "Debris and tumbleweeds drift past you on the windy street. The street continues south. To the east is the Jailhouse and the Railroad Station is to the west."

South Main Street is south of Main Street. "The wind is less intense on this end of the street that continues to the north. You see the Candy Shop to the east and the Church to the south."


Chapter 2 - The Jailhouse

The Jailhouse is east of North Main Street. "The jailhouse, which also serves as your office, is sparsely furnished. The door to the jail cell is to the east. There is an exit to the west."

The bulletin board is in the Jailhouse. The description is "The bulletin board has a lone wanted poster attached to it."

The wanted poster is scenery in the Jailhouse. The description is "Printed in large bold letters, the poster says[paragraph break][italic type]'Wanted! Dead or Alive:[line break]The man known as the Lollipop Strangler'[roman type][paragraph break]".

The desk is a supporter in the Jailhouse. The description is "The desk has always been in the same spot."

The handwritten note is on the desk. The description is "[italic type]We left early this morning to track the Lollipop Strangler and had to take all the guns and ammo from the cabinet. You should be all right until we return.[line break]- Sheriff Tate[roman type]".

The envelope is a closed openable container on the desk. The description is "The letter-sized envelope has the sheriff's name on it."

The telegraph is in the envelope. The description is "It's a telegraph to the sheriff:[paragraph break][italic type]Reports suggest that the Lollipop Strangler is in Spitoon STOP[paragraph break]Be on your guard STOP[roman type]".

The iron key is on the desk. The description is "This big heavy key is for the jail cell door."

The chair is an enterable supporter in the Jailhouse. The description is "The creaky wooden chair is the only place to sit in here."

The large weapons cabinet is a closed lockable container in the Jailhouse. The brass key unlocks the large weapons cabinet.

After opening the large weapons cabinet:
	say "You open [the noun].";
	try examining the noun.

Section 1 - The Jail Cell

The cell door is an open lockable door and scenery in the Jailhouse. It is east of the Jailhouse and west of the Jail Cell. The iron key unlocks the cell door.

The Jail Cell is a room. "This small cell is built for functionality not comfort as it is furnished with only an old wooden cot to sit or sleep on."

The wooden cot is an enterable supporter in the Jail Cell. It is scenery. The description is "The cot is made of rough-hewn old wood. It feels uncomfortable just looking at it."


Chapter 3 - The Saloon

The Saloon is east of Main Street. "The saloon is fairly busy today with people sitting at tables, playing cards, and drinking. A staircase leads up to the second floor. There is an exit to the west."

The staircase_up is scenery in the Saloon. The description is "The railed staircase, carpeted with a rich red fabric, leads up to the second floor of the saloon." Understand "staircase" and "stairs" as staircase_up.

The patrons are scenery in the Saloon. Understand "people" and "customers" as the patrons. The description is "A mixed bunch who seem to be enjoying themselves."

The playing cards are scenery in the Saloon. The description is "No need to be concerned about that."

The tables are scenery in the Saloon. The description is "The typical sort of round, cheaply-made tables you would find in a place such as this."

Rose is a woman in the Saloon. "Rose, the Saloon's 'madame', moves amongst the patrons."

Poodles Sanchez is a man in the Saloon. Understand "sweet tooth" as Poodles Sanchez. "Dancing in the middle of the floor is Poodles Sanchez."

Spitz is a man in the Saloon. "Spitz, the bartender, is wiping off shot glasses and quietly whistling to himself."

Charley is a man in the Saloon. "Charley, drunk as usual, stands alone at the bar trying to keep his balance."


Section 1 - The Upstairs Hallway

Upstairs Hallway is up from Saloon. "Standing in the dim hallway above the saloon, there are two doors marked A1 and A2 to the west and east respectively. There are stairs leading down."

The staircase_down is scenery in the Upstairs Hallway. The description is "The railed staircase, carpeted with a rich red fabric, leads down to the first floor of the saloon." Understand "staircase" and "stairs" as staircase_down.

The _hallway is scenery in the Upstairs Hallway. The description is "In the dim light of the hallway, you can see two doors marked A1 and A2 to the west and east respectively. There are stairs leading down." Understand "hallway" and "hall" as _hallway.

Door A1 is a door and scenery. It is west of the Upstairs Hallway and east of the Front Suite.

Instead of knocking on Door A1:
	say "There is no response."

The Front Suite is a room.

Door A2 is a door and scenery. It is east of the Upstairs Hallway and west of the Back Suite.

Instead of knocking on Door A2:
	say "You hear some movement from inside but then silence."

The Back Suite is a room.


Chapter 4 - The Candy Shop

The Candy Shop is east of South Main Street. "The shop has a large glass case in the center of the shop. There is an exit to the west."

The glass case is a locked lockable transparent container in the Candy Shop. It is scenery. The glass case contains 25 lollipops.


Chapter 5 - The Church

The Church is south of South Main Street. "The church is empty and quiet. There is an exit to the north. In the rear of the Church there are stairs that lead up."


Section 1 - The Belltower

The Belltower is up from the Church. "Dominating the belltower, one large bell hangs silently. Stairs lead down."

The bell is in the belltower. The description is "The iron bell is massive standing near it. How did they ever get it up here?"


Chapter 6 - The Railroad Station

The Railroad Station is west of North Main Street. "The railroad station is not much more than a wooden platform parallel to the railroad tracks. To the east is North Main Street."
